What is an audiologist?

An audiologist measures hearing ability, identifies hearing disorders, provides rehabilitative services, and assistive amplification devices or hearing aids.

  At least 1 in 6 people experience some degree of hearing loss. The earlier you begin to address your hearing loss, the better the chance of being able to retain many of the recognised “sound pictures” that our brain learns and stores from birth that help us quickly “get the picture” of a situation.

  Hearing loss can occur at any age (even babies) for any number of reasons, but in general there are 3 types of hearing loss: conductive, sensori-neural or mixed. Hearing loss ranges from a mild loss to moderate, severe and to profound.

  Tinnitus refers to “ringing in the ears” when no other sound is present. Causes of tinnitus could include hearing loss, Meniere's disease, loud noise exposure, to name a few.
